A software test engineer plans and runs tests, writes automated checks, and finds defects before players or customers do. SDETs, or software engineers in test, write more code: test frameworks, tooling, and pipelines that run on every build.

Test engineer titles for hardware, chip, flight, or spacecraft testing are left out, and so are bare test engineer titles with no software word, so read each listing.
